🍂 Fiddles, Fire & Hillside Ale
Fast tunes, cold brews, and stories you’ll feel in your bones.

Good morning, Hills lovers. The end of the year is speeding toward us, and the Hills are bursting with things to do. From live music that’ll have you thumping the table to new spots to sip your way through, there’s no shortage of reasons to get out and about. This week, I’m introducing Timlin’s Green, a 6 piece band coming to Macclesfield in December who’ll be lighting up the Hills with their fiery fiddles and up tempo Celtic tunes, plus a full Hills Brewery Trail to keep your weekends well stocked with good beer and good company. There’s plenty to keep the calendar full.
Let’s get into it.

FAST FIDDLES IGNITE FIRE
Timlin’s Green Live In The Hills

Ah, now here’s a thing worth turning out for.
A band with stories to tell and fire in their hands.
They call themselves Timlin’s Green, and by God, they play like they mean it.
You’ll hear it before you see them. The quick snap of a drum. The bright streak of fiddle cutting through the night. Then it builds, faster and faster, till the whole room feels like it might lift clean off its foundations. It’s not gentle, not quiet, not something to hum politely along to. It’s alive.
They’re a six-piece crew from Adelaide, bound together by their love of the old tunes, the wild ones, the ones that make you laugh and thump the table and maybe shout a line or two yourself. Tell Me Ma. Whiskey in the Jar. Star of the County Down. Songs that never grow old, only louder.
And in between, there’s the theatre of it, the wink, the yarn, the half-true tale told just to keep you leaning in. Then the bow strikes again and off they go, faster still. You can almost taste the salt and the smoke of another land.
Fifty tickets only. Twenty dollars to be part of the noise.
So come for the stories, stay for the storm.
Because once Timlin’s Green hit their stride, the whole pub will breath in time.
Book your tickets now. Friday December 6, the 3 Brothers Arms, Macclesfield.

HILLS BREWERY TRAIL
Hop Your Way Through

It’s no secret that the Adelaide Hills produce world class wines. But today we’re shining a light on the beer that comes out of the Hills region. Think cosy breweries in heritage buildings, sunny beer gardens perfect for a long afternoon, and brewers who are as friendly as they are knowledgeable.
There’s Lobethal Bierhaus, pouring generous tasting paddles alongside hearty food in a converted woollen mill. Prancing Pony in Totness, with its old-school “fire brewing” technique. Uraidla Brewery — a tiny setup beside the pub that’s taken home Australia’s top independent beer award. And in Verdun, the triple threat at Grünthal Brew where you can pair beer with cheese, gin, and wine!
Some stops are a little out of the way, like Union Bridge Brewery in Cudlee Creek, but worth the drive. Others are right in the middle of things, like Gulf Brewery and the newer Hahndorf Brewing Co. And if your group can’t decide between beer, wine or spirits, Lot 100 in Nairne has it all.
Check out this list I’ve compiled here → Hills Brewery Trail. If there are any missing you think should be included, email me here.

Let’s get the word out to thousands of people who love the Adelaide Hills.

Robert Moore’s latest novel, God is an Apricot, takes root in the Adelaide Hills but is being launched down in the city with an author-in-conversation event that promises plenty of spark. Expect talk of a 1990s HIV diagnosis, the feverish mania of creativity, and the wild ride of putting on one last big show. The launch is your first chance to snag a copy of this metaphysical tour de forceps, with Diverse-City serving up lunch, snacks, and even an apricot-inspired cocktail to toast the occasion. Check it out.
